Environmental respect

We see ourselves as custodians and protectors of our vulnerable environment, and we are committed to passing on the natural environment in a better state than when we found it. For many years, we have been involved in establishing new ponds, coverts and spinneys. We have also established large uncultivated areas, cleared streams and taken other measures to ensure that our surroundings are passed on to the next generation in a better shape than when we acquired them.

REFORESTING

By enormous CO2 storage in the soil of fields with Christmas trees. After a few years, Christmas trees reforest the soil. This happens because the root systems increasingly contribute to humus with a high CO2 content in their organic material as the trees grow.
Research from Copenhagen University’s NFI (National Forest Inventory) shows (2023) that Christmas trees absorb and store huge amounts of CO2 in foliage, trunks and roots.
When farmland is planted with Christmas trees, the trees in the field immediately begin to absorb and store CO2.

In our company, the standing Christmas trees store is 225,000 tonnes of CO2 during their entire growth period. To give an idea of the size of the storage for the Christmas trees, it corresponds to emissions from 25,000 cars annually.
The entire wood mass at Firma Collet neutralizes approx. 110,000 cars.
In order to get the Christmas trees to the consumer, propellants, plant nutrition and plant protection during production must be used, which release small amounts of CO2. This is insignificant compared to the enormous amounts that are stored in the trees absorb.
